Synopsis

A documentary about Ayenga Yangunda, a Congolese woman seeking asylum in the United Kingdom during a time of unrest in the Congo. The film outlines her struggles living in the UK as a refugee. This documentary outlines issues evacuees must face and takes a look at the problems with the asylum reporting system. Several organizations are interviewed including the British Refugee Council, Amnesty International UK, and Refugee Action. This film is meant to both raise awareness of refugees and the system that must be changed in order to help them.

 

“Living Without Living” had its world premiere at the Amnesty International Human Right Action Centre on the 22nd of November 2011. This screening was followed by a panel discussion chaired by Jonathan Ellis. The films international premiere was at the Oosternieland Film Festival in the Netherlands on November 4th, 2012. It has also been screened at the Bareface films club and at Lambeth Tate Library in July 2013.
